  • Cooler and Freezer Door Questions

What is the difference between a walk-in cooler door and a walk-in freezer door?

The key difference is, the freezer door will have a full perimeter heat tape which will keep the door gaskets from frosting or freezing up.

Do I need the optional through-frame and mirror casing for my replacement walk-in cooler door?

It depends on your wall material. If your wall is constructed with studs, our faceplate will have something to bolt to. If your wall construction is foam panels, then you will need the additional components to sandwich the door into place.

Do you sell replacement walk-through cooler and freezer doors?

Yes, we offer custom-made walk-through cooler doors and walk-through freezer doors. (send us a picture of your existing door, and we can guide you in the right direction)

How do you measure for a cold storage door?

  • If you are purchasing the door and face plate only:
Measure the width and height of the finished opening (Closest point)
  • If you are purchasing a door and the frame:
Measure the width and height of the rough cut opening (Closest point

What things I should consider when purchasing a cold storage door?

  • What size finished opening would best fit your application?
  • What type of traffic will the door be used for, foot, cart, or motorized?
  • What are the estimated temperatures on both sides of the door?
  • How many times per hour will the door need to be opened or cycled?

What does entrapment mean?

In relationship to sliding doors, it is the ability to move a closed or stopped door in order to escape the area in case of an emergency.

What voltage is required for a freezer door heating element?

For most of such applications, a voltage of 115 is needed.

Are freezer or cooler doors fire rated?

The doors are fire resistant but not fire rated.

What is a through-wall casing?

In applications where the cold storage door is installed in a rough opening, through-wall casings can be used to finish the opening. This type of casing wraps around the frame to create a finished opening on both sides of the wall, as well as the jamb.

What does mirror casings mean?

Cold storage doors frequently mount to non-structural foam panel walls. In these installations, there is no structure to attach the door to. Mirror casings are used to support the door system on the interior of the cooler or freezer box. A jamb wrap can also be added to cover the jamb area between the casing and the mirror casing to finish out the door frame.

How the product is shipped?

Custom packaging for each door ensures safe arrival at the installation site. All cooler and freezer doors come as a kit and are relatively easy to install. Frame casings are standard equipment for all doors. This provides an easier installation and ensures a good door seal once installed.

What options are available?

Each application is different, several upgrade options are available, kick and impact plates are used when door contact is present with foot or carts. Windows can be added for high traffic applications. Special locks and latches are available depending on your security or safety needs.
